On the 6th and 7th of February Dhimurru, with the help of the Rotary Club Nhulunbuy, erected a toilet block adjacent to the stone heritage site at Garanhan (Macassan’s) recreational area. The weather was hot and everyone was sweating, but with the help of at least 12 volunteers from Rotary Nhulunbuy everybody got in and worked hard to erect the toilet block. In early April stairs were installed to the toilet and a path was formed for easy access from the road, completing the project.

Dhimurru would like to thank the Rotary volunteers for their help, with a special thanks to Malcolm Watson who put an extra weekend with our crew to finish the plumbing. Great job guys and thanks again for this valuable collaboration. Thankyou also to Greg Bradford who volunteered at Dhimurru and assisted in installing the stairs.

(We ask that campers who utilise any Dhimurru recreational areas adopt safe and hygienic waste management practices. Always carry a trowel when heading out bush, even on day trips, burying your toilet waste well away from camping areas and walking trails.)
