Daymbawi Burarrwanga Bawi
Sea Country Ranger
Started with Dhimurru

2008

Background:

My name is Daymbawi Burarrwanga. I'm from the Gumatj Clan. I started working as a Yirralka ranger with the Laynhapuy IPA rangers. I did this for one and a half years before I decided to work with Dhimurru Land Management Aboriginal Corporation in early January 2009.

Role at Dhimurru:
As a Ranger at Dhimurru, Bawi is involved primarly in Sea Management. He checks crocodile traps, controls mission grass, does fencing, signage, training and survey work.
Comment

. I wanted to work as a Dhimurru Ranger so I could gain more qualifications and skills for the future. I also wanted to be a ranger so I could look after the land and the sea. This is important to me because my homeland Bawaka (Port Bradshaw) is in Dhimurru’s Indigenous Protected Area.
