Background:

 

Nick recently joined Dhimurru after living in Alotau, Papua New Guinea for the last 3 years. During that time he worked on a community based marine conservation project as well as helping to establish an eco-friendly fishing lodge in the area. Originally from Melbourne, Nick also spent 10 years in Warrnambool where he worked and completed a Bachelor of Science.

Role at Dhimurru:

Nick’s role at Dhimurru is to facilitate the implementation of the Sea Country Plan. He works closely with the Sea Country Rangers; Gatha and PJ Patrick White to ensure sea country is managed according to the wishes and concerns raised by the Traditional Owners. Current projects include Marine Debris cleanups, ghost net cleanups, turtle recovery, turtle tracking, coxswain training and foreign fishing vessel debris monitoring.

 

Comment:

I'm finding this position extremely rewarding. The highlights would be interacting and learning with Yolngu people and Im enjoying the fishing the area has to offer!
