Bellyache bush, Jatropha gossypiifolia is an invasive shrub that can grow to about 2.5 meters high. Left untreated, it can quickly spread, out-competing native vegetation. Its fruit is poisonous to all animals, including humans.
Native to tropical America, it has appeared in this region as a garden ornamental. It is having a big impact in the Roper River region and Victoria River region of N.T.
Bellyache bush is an NT Class A (to be eradicated) weed species.
