PATRICK WHITE PJ
Senior Sea Country Ranger
Started With Dhimurru:
2005

Background:
Nhamirri (hello), my name is Patrick White, a member of Marrakulu clan. Son of famous artist Nami Maymuru White. When I graduated from the Yirrkala CEC school, I then went to Dhimurru office and filled out an application form for a job as a Ranger. I got offered a contract to work with an organisation called the CSIRO with Dr. Ben Hoffman. I was working on the crazy ant project for one and a half years and then the Sea Country Plan of Management was launched at Garma in the year 2006. Then I decided to work as a Sea Ranger alongside Balupalu Yunupingu because I was passionate about the job and loved being out in the ocean and near the coastline looking after the pristine beaches and the blue sea we have around us.
Role at Dhimurru:
Patrick is a ranger and has responsibility for managing the sea country team along with the Sea Country Facilitator. He participates in and help coordinate projects such as Turtle monitoring and tracking, Ghost Nets, Marine Debris clean-ups and training. He recently completed his Coxswain training and is now able to operate Sea Ranger 1.
Comment:

I was inspired by the yolngu rangers working on county. They were maintaining and looking after the Land and Sea especially the significant sites and song lines and stories that tell the history about the Land and Sea.

I love what I am doing and I am looking forward to being the first yolngu Facilitator for Dhimurru.
