  Wurrwurrwuy Project completed

Dhimurru are pleased to announce the completion of the interpretive walk at Wurrwurrwuy (Macassan Beach). The Project was completed on Saturday the 23rd of September 2006 when a group of dedicated volunteers, along with Dhimurru and Parks & Wildlife staff, completed the walk by developing a carpark and installing the new interpretive signage. Other work undertaken during the weekend included marine debris collection and the removal of caltrop and coffee bush.

The upgrade to Garanhan was undertaken at the request by the land owners. Also included in the upgrade was the construction of a new fence and path, work which was undertaken by YNOTS.

The interpretive signage explains contact history between the Macassan’s and Yolngu and the meaning behind the unique stone arrangements.

Residents and visitors with a current Dhimurru General Permit are welcome to visit the site.

Dhimurru would like to thank all the hard working volunteers for donating their Saturday. Your work was much appreciated as a very enjoyable time was had by all. We are hoping to arrange the next volunteer event soon.
