Dhimurru Indigenous Protected Area (IPA)

Our Strategic Priorities

Dhimurru’s work is guided by six strategic goals, each one reflecting our priorities for strong governance, healthy Country, and community wellbeing:

These priorities shape everything we do – from ranger patrols to boardroom decisions.

Cultural Protection and Celebration

Safeguard Yolŋu knowledge, sites, and practices. Celebrate and strengthen culture through ceremony, language, and intergenerational learning.

Integrated Land and Sea Management

Care for Country using both Yolŋu and Western science – managing fire, marine debris, invasive species, visitor access, and biodiversity in a way that reflects our values and priorities.

Community-Led Innovation

Support Yolŋu-led initiatives that grow local knowledge, leadership, and employment. Create space for new ideas grounded in old wisdom.

Resilience to Environmental Change

Build the capacity of our people and Country to adapt to climate change and other threats. Monitor key species and landscapes, and act early to protect them.

Holistic Wellbeing and Livelihoods

Create meaningful work and pathways for Yolŋu people that support both economic and cultural wellbeing, especially for rangers, women, and young leaders.

Global Influence and Partnerships

Share our model with others and build partnerships that respect our governance. Let the world learn from how we manage Country, and walk with us in genuine collaboration.
